Shatabisha comes from two words "Shata & Bheesaj". "Shata" means “100” or “a large number” and "Bheesaj" means a “healer” or a “cure.” So it translates as “Hundreds of Healers” or “Hundreds of Cures”. Hence this Rahu ruled nakshatra is strongly associated with mystical and miraculous healers. Varuna the tutelary archetype of this nakshatra also has magical healing abilities and hence Shatabisha natives become determined and dedicated humanitarians, work for a noble causes to "heal the world" without regard for credit, name and fame. All this comes from the shakti of this nakshatra which generates the power of healing (Bheshaja Shakti). Called the "Veiling Star", this nakshatra is about healing the human condition spiritually and physically.
Varuna is the god of the night sky while his inseparable companion (Polar Opposite) Mitra is the god of the daytime sky. Varuna also means "The All Enveloping Sky". Hence, this is also the nakshatra associated with aeronautics, aviation and other atmospheric endeavors. Note that an "the empty dark circle" is the symbol of this nakshatra. The symbol of the empty circle represents the void of space, what is behind the veil, indicating illusions or maya, and inner vision. It can bestow a moody, secretive, reclusive and lonely temperament. It is associated with inner vision, meditation, philosophy, the visionary, mystic and scientist. And hence, Varuna is also sometimes also referred as the “Dark Sun” or “Midnight Sun”.
They may be healers or doctors. They are profoundly mystical, meditative, philosophical, scientific, and are visionaries. They are very secretive, and reclusive. There is an affinity to star watching, and this can apply to astronomers as well as astrologers. They can be moody, lonely and depressed. Intensely opinionated and stubborn they think they know it all and have nothing to learn from others, because they are above them. Alcoholic beverages are ruled by this nakshatra. Difficult to heal or hard to cure diseases come under this rulership. There is a connection with electricity.
Shatabhisha counters difficult karmas through divine grace and repentance. These include not only diseases but difficulties of all kind, including sin. While Ashwini Nakshatra gives more immediate cures, Shatabisha brings about a healing crisis, leading to revitalization.
